The WASH programme of FERAL has now been merged with the Natural Resource Management programme.

The objectives of this programme were to:

  • To test and install appropriate infrastructure for decentralised water and sanitation with a focus on women and schoolgoing children, particularly girls.
  • To build local capacities in managing and mantaining water and sanitation systems.
  • To generate awareness and encourage the adoption of toilets, particularly in rural areas with high risks of contamination of drinking water sources.
  • To use available toolkits for testing water quality as a means of education and awareness amongst schoolgoing children.
  • To participate in efforts in developing diagnostic kits for vector borne deseases and linking them to spatial and temporal changes in environmental conditions in rural Tamil Nadu.
