Summary

The Community-led Environment Action Network (CLEAN)-India program is a nationwide programme on environmental assessment, awareness and action, towards developing cleaner environments across towns and cities. The program facilitated by Development Alternatives, New Delhi through NGO partners and other agencies. FERAL partnered with DA to conduct this program in Pondicherry and nearby towns.

Objectives
  1. To engage with school children to raise awareness on local environmental issues
  2. To conduct air and water quality monitoring using low cost portable kits
  3. To initiate projects at the school and community level on reducing, reusing, and recycling of resources
Status
  • Environmental awareness programs were conducted in 9 schools in Pondicherry and Cuddalore
  • More than 200 school students were engaged in regular air and water quality monitoring
  • Several small projects were initiated by students within their schools and communities
