Coastal & Marine Systems

A focussed group discussion at Veerampatinam, Pondicherry.

This programme focusses on documentation of marine artisanal fisheries to undestand the links between fishing capacities, management structures and species composition. Projects in this programme look at both the social aspects of resource management as well as the ecological aspects of species composition, diversity and morphometry.

Our work on coastal habitats includes community based restoration and we are presently engaged in projects and proposals for integrated coastal zone management.

We have developed a number of important links and partnerships through this programme with both activist as well as research and government agencies, as discussed in the related project pages.
