FERAL: Foundation for Ecological Research, Advocacy and Learning

Foundation for Ecological Research, Advocacy and Learning

Five day workshop on introductory GIS/RS using Quantum GIS at the FERAL campus.

Basic knowledge of GIS, GPS and remote sensing (RS) are no longer “specialised” areas, they are essential tools for a range of applications spanning development, vulnerability analysis, conservation and natural resources management. Unfortunately, there are not many avenues outside a formal degree, to get a basic grounding in the GIS and remote sensing. This workshop is an attempt to fill in this lacuna by providing hands on training on using GIS, GPS and RS in real-world applications. We've added a new module on using smart phones based GPS units for naviagation and geotagging as a response to feedback from earlier courses.
