Postion: JRF4
Junior research fellow for a period of two years starting from January 2010.
The project aims to assess connectivity between large mammal populations in the Periyar-Agasthyamali landscape of the southern Western Ghats. Corridor identification will be carried out at both local and landscape level scales. Quantitative and data-driven identification of important areas for connectivity is a major feature of this project. The main activities include large mammal surveys. In addition to this, assessment of bird and butterfly community diversity in key areas will be carried out.
The JRF will spend most of the time in field research. The main duties include but are not restricted to the following.
1. Carrying out sign based large mammal surveys
2. Assessing bird and butterfly community diversity
3. Data entry and analysis
Requirements:
Applicant should be an Indian National with a relevant degree (undergraduate or postgraduate) in biological science, and/or relevant professional experience in wildlife research and conservation. The work involves intensive field work and the applicant should be willing and able to work in remote forested areas. The applicant should know how to use a GPS and should possess basic map reading skills and should possess a four wheeler driving license. She/he should be able to identify large mammals (carnivores and herbivores) by their signs and should have good bird and butterfly identification skills, and a passion for natural history would be an added advantage.

Postion: JRF5
Junior research fellow for a period of three years starting from January 2010. The key responsibility will be assessing carbon sequestration rates in mixed landscapes between Periyar Tiger Reserve and Kalakad Mundanthurai Tiger Reserve.
Registration for a Ph.D., or using the information collected for a Ph.D. is desirable.
The JRF will spend most of the time in field research. The main duties include but are not restricted to the following.
1. Field measurements and surveys
2. Data entry and analysis
Requirements:
Applicant should be an Indian National with a relevant degree (undergraduate or postgraduate) in biological science, and/or relevant professional experience in wildlife research and conservation. The work involves intensive field work and the applicant should be willing and able to work in remote forested areas. The applicant should know how to use a GPS and should possess basic map reading skills and should possess a four wheeler driving license. A knowledge of botany, or the ability to learn the local flora quickly, will be necessary, and a passion for natural history would be an added advantage.
