Community-based Water and Sanitation facilities and Capacity Building of Local Residents for Adaptation to the Calamity in Coastal Areas in Cuddalore District, Tamil Nadu, IndiaThe overall goal of the project is to promote adaptation of communities living in natural calamity prone coastal areas of Cuddalore District in Tamil Nadu. The project is of a two and a half year duration. Skill Based Micro-enterprise Development for Women from Scheduled CastesThis two year project, supported by the Science and Society Division of the Department of Science and Technology, New Delhi proposes to use the model of enterprise incubators to set up food processing and aquariums. A one year project supported by the Australian Research Council’s Economic Design Network and Environmental Economics Unit, Department of Economics, Göteborg University, Sweden develops protocols to make payments to individuals and grass root organisations to improve the cover and status of wild habitats in the southern western ghats. The project starts in August 2008. Landscape corridors for wildlifeThe Rufford Foundation has funded a Small Grants project to identify optimal areas for conservation as large mammal corridors in southern western ghats. The project starts in August 2008. Gastrointestinal parasites in langursThe Primate Conservation Inc., USA recently sanctioned a project entitled "Gastrointestinal parasites in langurs: the influence of human settlements within a Protected Area in the Western Ghats, India". The project is scheduled to start in April 2008. Establishing small scale coconut extraction unts in the Nicobar IslandsThe Science and Society Division of Dept. of Science and Technology has sanctioned a 2 year project entitled "Establishing small scale coconut extraction units at the Nicobar Islands". The project starts in February 2008. Landscape Assessment of the Kalivelli Basin
The Natural Resources Data Management Systems division of the Department of Science and Technology recently sanctioned a project entitled "Landscape assessment of the Kalivelli basin". The project is of a three year duration, starting November end (2007) and will employ various GIS and remote sensing applications of landscape ecology and watershed management.
